Audio: MC Skill Tha Preacha and MC Magic Man - Project X EP

Its been a minute now since this here space has been functional but not because it was void of materials, it is simply owing to the broadband troubles. It happens but then i just keep it moving regardless. Like Ricky Rozay would say, 'these ... cant hold me back'

Right, to the business at hand. Remember the hommie called MC Skill tha Preacher and one half the the duo Nutty2 called MC Magic Man? Both rappers got together to put in work on an EP branded Project X and the offering is what i present to you today. I had the opportunity to sample the material and here is the content as i perceived it.

I wont take anything from both guys as rappers but i think the issue with the EP is that one emcee was experimenting and the other was rapping. Now i might be wrong but this is how it comes across. Magic Man played his rapper role whilst  Skill was experiment on his new found love for KRS One which he even admits on one of the cuts on the EP 'Bonus (Rebirth)'. \This track happens to be the one where the preacher brought the originality and wasn't playing around.

Edison was a track i couldn't relate with probably because the story told was lacking in originality and was unusually out of reach for the mind except when watching a boyz in tha hood movie. But then these two men really have hip hop pumping in their veins which naturally makes 'Halftime' guest appearing Psalmurai on it a favourite.

In the end, both emcess have a chemistry that shows a work in progress but definitely is sure to improve trememdously so you can't half step or sleep on them.

Role call of producers includes Teck-Zilla from Canada, Stormatique who is an affiliate of MC Skill Tha Preacha and MP who is the other half of Nutty2 to which MC Magic Man belongs. Modenine who holds crown in rap begins the tape with a little introduction.

Watch this space for more from them.

T.U.R.N. Album

It was just another Facebook group to acquaint emcees, producers and like minds with themselves and give life to the seemingly dead or dying hip hop community. Basically you would find beats, videos and even links to the important materials that needed to be heard. Some did it just to sharpen their tools and some did it to get support for their craft.

On one of those days, the producer known to some as Black Intelligence instigated a drive and he did by saying 'what are we all doing leaning back like Fat Joe? An Underground Railroad mixtape should be in the works by now'. And with these words, the foetus was formed and the pregnancy grew till the actual tape was born.

Producers put up beats and rappers picked their desired choice to create the music you heard on the tape. Not all the recorded materials made the cast list as some were horribly recorded that mixing couldn't even save them and some just were a disappointment to the producers and the emcees failed to do justice to the instrumentals. So if you did submit your raps an didn't find it on the finished material then you should know it was owing to one of this e two reasons. The possible third would be you didn't make the deadline.

In spite of the chaos, the finished product is one you cannot but appraise giving the the circumstances around the recording and the mixing down to the selection. Some emcees had something to prove and they did whilst others simply did what they are known for. I will call this unselfish rap because it isn't targeted at the pockets of the rap loving fans but at their support for true hip hop and hopefully materials like this one would continually manufacture itself to create the needed space for true hip hop. The  T.U.R.N. is here and hopefully there will be a subsequent one which will be much better than this one.

I would make a roll call but i feel it is unnecessary since the music is the most important but thumbs up to the producers that made this happen and the emcees that got down on this project.

Titans: Charlie Clipz VS X-Factor

Its been a while since i put up stuff here on the battle side of things but i do want this to be live as well so i have decided to put any kind of battle i can find as long as it is a true representation of the battle essence. I still wait to lay my hands on the Nigerian battles and hopefully someday, i will eventually get some of them in.

This here is from the smack collection and for all the people that know smack, you couldn't have expected to see anything below par. Feed on this and watch people murk themselves in the ring. I feel though that this was a tie and needs a breaker to find the winner. What do y'all think?

Titans: Grinda VS Rachit

This is from the AHAT collection and eventhough its a different environment with its own set rules, it still brings that battle essence to the fore. This is goodcombat but the difference is AHAT rappers carry on like it is a movement battling at will but supporting eachother. Good sportsmanship i must say.

That being said, Grinda goes against Rachit in this one and to be honest the bald-headed green man takes the cake and he is my favorite because he is different and stands out from the pack. But not to influence your pick, watch and share your thoughts.

Fecko ft Terry Tha Rapman & Pherowshuz - Raplogic (Bans Remix)

The Raplogic EP by Fecko comes highly recommended if you haven't heard it. Produced entirely by Teck-Zilla of the Str8Buttah clan, the 9 tracker (i hope i am correct) is way better than a lot of mainstream albums on the shelves right now. But industry politics wont let a material like this survive, which is why it is free to download. Seek, search and you shall surely find.

Now to the crux which is the Raplogic remix actually credited as Bans remix. This is owing to the long term affiliation of Fecko with the Bans movement. Hence, the presence of Terry Tha Rapman and Pherowshuz.

First impressions is that Teck-Zilla took a different approach to this beat which is somewhat out of his comfort zone. The bouncy beat is something i wouldn't quickly pin to Teck but he does well to mesh the kicks with the thumping bass all together for a neck snapping experience.

Terry Tha Rapman and Pherowshuz did what they were supposed to and truly it is a Bans representation on the track. Fecko played his part without getting lost in the mix. Unique voices and unique flows equates to the BANS remix. This is radio friendly but question remains - will it be played on radio?

Audio: Mi-Fliss, Stoneblaze, Yobemoh - Gentleman

The first time i heard Mi-Fliss' production was on the beat tape collabo with XYZ on the Nice One compilation. I was impressed and surprised at the kind of work the guy is capable of and now he has even shocked me further by creating a beat for a song.

Gentleman is the name of the song and this is in commemoration of this year's Felabration which will come to you in a short space of time. We all know that Felabration is a musical celebration of the life and times of the great musical legend called Fela Kuti. Mi-Fliss therefore pays homage to the legend by sampling the classic Fela hit 'Gentleman' and recreating it to a hip-hop format with boombap beats. then he employs Stoneblaze and Yobemoh to blaze the track with him.

All three men give perspectives on why they aint no gentlemen but its the collage of sounds and rhymes that blows my mind sky high. You definitely will feel this and i really look forward to seeing what Mi-Fliss will cook up next. Producers better watch out.

Audio: GQ - Speaking in Tongues

GQ is working on a new mixtape called The Hunger Tape and this song you are about to peep is the official second single to drop from the pack. Gear up as we journey into the sounds of the laid back man with a lot of hidden talents in his kitty.

In a world taken over by skinny jeans rappers, GQ has stepped up to the plate to give hope to the true hip hop fans. Even if he wont do the big numbers, this still wont deter GQ from bringing it pure and simple as it is (there is a bit of complex in there somewhere.

Speaking in Tongues is what the track is called and it is quite worthy of a good listen. The beat is easily identifiable from the Lost Tapes compilation by Nas and justice was done if not perfectly but smoothly to the kicks and snares and dude takes no prisoners in his flows and delivery.

GQ is coming up the ladder real fast i hope he continues this way so that other rappers can be inspired to follow his stead and hit the industry very hard. We are rooting for you homeboy.
